Why Might You Need Us?
Adoption is a life-long experience for everyone involved. It can mean different things at different times.
Over the years, many things have changed - adopted people now have access to their birth records; older children and children with disabilities, as well as healthy babies, now join new families by adoption; attitudes to transracial adoption have moved. More changes will come in the next few years with new adoption legislation.
So you may welcome help and advice from SWAN if:
-
You had a child who was adopted and you want to talk about how this has affected your life and what this may involve in future.
- You were adopted and want to talk about this, or have some questions answered.
- You adopted a child or children and want to talk about how this affects your family life.
- You would like some guidance about talking with your children about adoption.
- The children and parents in your family are of different races and cultures and you would like to talk about the questions or issues that arise.
- Your family relationships have been changed by adoption: perhaps by a step-parent adoption, or as the result of your brother or sister having been adopted.
